Cancer and Bio-detection Dogs concert
A knowledgeable and appreciative audience attended the concert on Saturday 31st October in the Buckingham Community Centre. Mr and Mrs Peter and Leonie Thorogood very kindly sponsored the hire of the Community Centre, for which we thank them most sincerely. Rob Harris, the chief dog trainer from Cancer and Bio-detection Dogs came along with information about the charity and a computer display, which aroused a great deal of interest. Claire Guest also spoke on behalf of the charity after the interval. During the interval we made a surprise presentation to Bob Hart who joined the Band 60 years ago in 1949. (More below).
The opening number was Goff Richards' arrangement of "Breezin' Down Broadway", followed by P. Greenwood's,"As Time Goes by". Then came a cornet solo, "Georgia On My Mind", with soloist Tony Hart. This was followed by Steve Cortland's arrangement of "The Swan" from "Carnival of the Animals". Andrew and Vicki Cook then played "Panis Angelicus with Andrew taking the lead on trombone and wife Vicki playing the obbligato on flugel horn. The first half concluded with "Cruella de Vil", from "101 Dalmatians", and Edrich Sieberts arrangement of Hava Nagila. After the interval we began with the overture to "H.M.S. Pinafore" arranged by Gavin Somerset. Then came cornet soloist Emma Mainwaring playing Joy Webb's "Share My Yoke". Ronald Hanmer's selection from "Hansel and Gretel" came next, followed by trombone feature "The Swinging Bones", by Frankie Dake. This was played by Andrew Cook, Paul Lack, Lauren Cook, Colin Nichols, Katy Slade and Paul How. Then came Ray Farr's arrangement of "Whistle Down The Wind" and the concert concluded with the Frank Bryce arrangement of "Aces High". Photos on "October Charity Concert page
SIXTY YEARS OF PLAYING
Bob Hart pictured with his wife Barbara. Bob was presented with an engraved whisky glass (and of course something to fill it), in appreciation of 60 years service with the band, 53 of them spent as a committee member. He was Chairman from 1978 until he retired from the post in 2006. He played cornet for most of that time, the greater part on the Solo spot until he took a back seat to let his son Tony take over on top. Bob has not been well in recent months and it was with great pleasure that we saw him return to playing recently, now on Tenor Horn. A very big welcome back Bob! In all that time his best and most loyal supporter (and fiercest critic at times), has been Barbara. Long may you both stay with us.

In order to add to our presentation at concerts and engagements, we have purchased a new folding sign and new banners. These are proving a great asset to the band. We are very grateful to Frances Robinson, who made a cover for our sign, and our president Len Goodwin, who made a case for the banners. Thank you both very much.
We welcome three new players to the Band, all from one family. Cornetist Graham Saunders, who already has daughter Emma playing solo cornet, is now joined by his other daughters Jo Saunders and Clare Tring, and Emma's daughter Poppy. Jo and Clare are on cornet and Poppy plays Tenor Horn.
